In addition to the wealth of opportunities for formal canoe and kayak coaching in suffolk the county also enjoys a wide range of other watersports related courses. Please see below a few courses or contacts that have been made known to us albeit be aware that pretty much all courses can be arranged on demand subject to minimum numbers.

RYA National Powerboat Scheme

Welcome to the sport of powerboating. The RYA National Powerboat Scheme exists to meet the needs of those who use small, open powerboats for sport, whether for their own sake or in connection with another activity such as sailing, sub-aqua diving, canoeing or water skiing. The National Powerboat Scheme is applicable to sportsboats, RIBs, dories, launches and other boats that do not normally provide accommodation or cooking facilities. Description

Duration

Powerboat Level 1 Course

Introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.

One day

Powerboat Level 2 Course

Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

Two days

Powerboat Intermediate Course

Covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters, using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques

Two days

Powerboat Advanced Course

Course for leisure and professional boaters wanting to undertake more adventurous trips in small powerboats.

Two days including at least one night navigation exercise.

Safety Boat Course

Two day course for those who use powerboats to provide support and safety cover for other watersports such as sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying.

Two days

RYA Powerboat Instructor

This is the qualification to teach the L1 and L2 courses. The pre-requisites are to hold the RYA PB l2 certificate and a recognized FA certificate
